For the last few months, we have known the end was approaching for our nearly 15 year old Wheaten Terrier, Preston. When it finally came time to make the difficult decision, we were so thankful to find Journeys Home Pet Euthanasia. We really appreciated the Journeys Quality of Life Scale which helped us to confirm that it was the right time for us to say our final goodbye. From our first interaction with Dr. Katie, she made the process as smooth as possible. We are comforted knowing that Preston was at peace through to the end. He fell asleep while eating ice cream and cheese whiz. Dr. Katie was so gentle and kind with him through the process. We will miss him dearly, but are thankful that someone like Dr. Katie was here to help. We would highly recommend her to any other pet owner facing this difficult decision.

Having to put Remmy down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I couldn’t imagine having to do it with any other vet than Dr. Katie. She was warm, compassionate, kind, empathetic, comforting and beyond caring. She came to my home (over an hour a way) knowing what needed to be done, interrupting her Easter morning with her family. She even brought treats for Remmy’s final moments and clay to make an imprint of Remmy’s paw for us to memorialize. So, even though I hope none of you are ever in the position to have to make the decision to put one of your beloved pets to sleep, I know that some of you will and if you are local to me (or in Southern Wisconsin) I want you to know that I felt blessed having Katie there, she made it easier and was far from intrusive.

Thank you and bless you for this helpful, healing website and for your Journey Scale which is the clearest tool I have come across to help us evaluate our 15 yr. old rescue dog. It’s no surprise that he scored low and I will share this with my vet. The scale is eye opening, as each category with the descriptions gets to the essence of his condition. I cried when I saw the score but it has given me some peace, in knowing that it’s time… I would like to deny it, but it’s undeniable- his life is so compromised, his tail doesn’t even wag much anymore either! We love him, he loves us. That love will never die! Thank you.

Thank you, Dr. Katie, for giving our beloved cat Molly this final gift: a peaceful death in the comfort of home where she’s been so loved. Your compassion and attentiveness to Molly’s, as well as our, needs during this sad time is very appreciated. I also appreciate Dr. Laura’s kindness during our phone conversation the previous day. She explained everything very well and with such genuine compassion.

I had an elderly cat with multiple health issues, and in spite of valiant efforts he was obviously failing. In the past I had always taken my cats to a veterinarian or emergency clinic for euthanasia, but I had read an article about Journeys Home Pet Euthanasia in a local magazine and I thought that would be a more gentle end of life experience so I found their web site and called them.

Dr. Katie Hilst answered the phone, asked some questions about my cat, and we set up a home appointment for the following evening. Dr. Katie arrived at my house at the appointed time and was extremely compassionate and caring, both to me and my cat. It is never easy to say goodbye to a pet but Dr. Katie made the experience far less traumatic than it would have been at a remote location. I highly recommend her services

My daughter and I were so thankful to have your service recommended by the UW Veterinary School.
