Having to put Remmy down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I couldn’t imagine having to do it with any other vet than Dr. Katie. She was warm, compassionate, kind, empathetic, comforting and beyond caring. She came to my home (over an hour a way) knowing what needed to be done, interrupting her Easter morning with her family. She even brought treats for Remmy’s final moments and clay to make an imprint of Remmy’s paw for us to memorialize. So, even though I hope none of you are ever in the position to have to make the decision to put one of your beloved pets to sleep, I know that some of you will and if you are local to me (or in Southern Wisconsin) I want you to know that I felt blessed having Katie there, she made it easier and was far from intrusive.
Thank you and bless you for this helpful, healing website and for your Journey Scale which is the clearest tool I have come across to help us evaluate our 15 yr. old rescue dog. It’s no surprise that he scored low and I will share this with my vet. The scale is eye opening, as each category with the descriptions gets to the essence of his condition. I cried when I saw the score but it has given me some peace, in knowing that it’s time… I would like to deny it, but it’s undeniable- his life is so compromised, his tail doesn’t even wag much anymore either! We love him, he loves us. That love will never die! Thank you.
Thank you, Dr. Katie, for giving our beloved cat Molly this final gift: a peaceful death in the comfort of home where she’s been so loved. Your compassion and attentiveness to Molly’s, as well as our, needs during this sad time is very appreciated. I also appreciate Dr. Laura’s kindness during our phone conversation the previous day. She explained everything very well and with such genuine compassion.
I have recommended your service to my pet-owner friends and family. It’s such a blessing that you offer our furry companions in their final days. Thank you… thank you!!
I had an elderly cat with multiple health issues, and in spite of valiant efforts he was obviously failing. In the past I had always taken my cats to a veterinarian or emergency clinic for euthanasia, but I had read an article about Journeys Home Pet Euthanasia in a local magazine and I thought that would be a more gentle end of life experience so I found their web site and called them.
Dr. Katie Hilst answered the phone, asked some questions about my cat, and we set up a home appointment for the following evening. Dr. Katie arrived at my house at the appointed time and was extremely compassionate and caring, both to me and my cat. It is never easy to say goodbye to a pet but Dr. Katie made the experience far less traumatic than it would have been at a remote location. I highly recommend her services
Thank you so much to Dr. Purdy… she came out on short notice (in a rainstorm) and did a very nice job. She was professional, respectful and made a very difficult thing easier to bear. Thank you
My daughter and I were so thankful to have your service recommended by the UW Veterinary School. We were stressed at the thought of having to bring our deaf and blind little cat to a clinic to be euthanized. This would have been extremely traumatic for her. Dr. Laura’s prompt attention to our situation gave us immediate peace. We cannot thank her enough for her professionalism and kindness while assisting our beloved Molly to her final home.
Thank you, Dr. Katie, for your kindness and compassion in assisting our sweet Abby in her transition from this world this past week. From the moment you walked through the door, we knew we were in caring and capable hands. And given how Abby greeted you with kisses and the wagging of her tail, we believe she knew this as well. Your gentle demeanor and empathy were what we needed to make this incredibly difficult day bearable. Thank you again for allowing Abby to pass in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love that she so greatly deserved. You are truly an angel among us.
I just want to thank you for helping me with putting my dog to sleep… you made it go so smooth. You said all of the right things at the right time. I felt like you knew jur-z and myself for a long time. Thank you for everything that you do! Thank you for making my impossible day, possible!
I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to you for coming to our home this past weekend. Your calm and peaceful presence was much appreciated, and fit right in with the quiet loving comfort we were trying to provide Milo that day. Thank you for being so gentle.
I forgot to mention to you that your quality of life scale was very helpful to me in thinking about what was best for Milo. I did not know what his little body would do as his cancer progressed, and your scale actually gave me information before those stages started to happen. I’m sure this scale has been useful to others as well.
Thank you again for making the trip to our home. I hope your drive home went ok in the snow.
We have had many beautiful memories with Dott and tonight was our final one that I will never forget. Dr. Laura, I woke up this morning never thinking one of our babies would need your amazing heart and skill. In fact I didn’t know ‘Journey’ even existed. How blessed/lucky we were that it does exist and that you were their for our girl and us in our time of need tonight. Your compassion, respect and sincerity is what Dott deserved. As she was such a loving gentle-hearted girl.
Thank you Dr. Laura and thank you ‘Journey’ for existing!
