Dante

Dante “DDD” Freitag March 16, 2005-February 9, 2020.
Dante died peacefully at home Sunday morning surrounded by his fur family with it snowing after a full moon in Leo.

Dante, named after Dante’s inferno, was a rescue guy who was in a fire and was the only animal who made it out. I adopted him when he was 3 months old and I was 25. He had a smoker’s cough, messed up eye and stub ear, with a round belly. My daughter Benny said he was the “most cuddly” of all the pets and was 22 lbs of pure love most of his life. He watched TV and movies with us because his depth perception was off, his beer belly used to sway back and forth when he ran, he head butted me with my fist every day and he loved his BFF brothers Bailey (who is 17.5 and still trucking) and Fred.

We all got a chance to surround him with love the last few days after his cancer diagnosis, and I can’t thank Journeys Home Pet Euthanasia Service enough as well as Denise and Benny who spoon fed him, took naps with him, and loved him until the very end. D was my garbage pail kid – he was my Leo lion brave for making it out of that fire nearly 15 years ago.

This full moon is about courage. I hope to love as fiercely and bravely as my DDD did. He has only known love.

Do not be afraid; Our fate Cannot be taken from us. It is a gift.
